This two-day course, part of our “Safety Starts Before the Engine” series enables members to become a trained and certified operator of aerial and scissor lifts. It is led by Local 481 members and JLG Certified Trainers Phil Reilly and Eric Komar. A Local 481 AWP Certified Operator certificate has become an important hiring credential with productions. During this class members take part in classroom activities that teach safe operation and understanding of laws, listen to presentations, a Genie video, regulations and liability involved in operating AWPs and take a written test that they must pass. Afternoons are devoted to hands-on sessions that include up to 60 minutes of supervised “stick time” that each participant must successfully pass. Successful completion of this class enables members to earn an I.D card and provide certification to OSHA, ANSI and manufacturers’ standards.
The classroom section focuses on:
- OSHA safety regulations and ANSI Standards
- Tip over prevention and weight factor issues
