This OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training uses examples from the entertainment industry. It covers Introduction to OSHA; Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, and Fire Protection; Personal Protective Equipment; Hazard Communication/Globally Harmonized System; Ergonomics; Electrical Safety: Materials Handling, Storage, Use, & Disposal; Entertainment Rigging; Walking/Working Surfaces; Fall Protection: Hand and Portable Powered Tool Safety; Lockout/Tagout; Mobile Elevating Work Platforms; Introduction to Industrial Hygiene; Back Safety; Welding, Cutting, and Brazing; Compressed Gasses; Machine Guarding; Bloodborne Pathogens; Mental Health Awareness; General Duty Clause; Multi-Employer Worksites; Ladder Safety; Job Hazard Analysis; Professional Behavior; Hearing Conservation; PPE: Head Protection; Emergency Action Plans and Disaster Plans; Working in Hot Conditions; Preparing for Weather Emergencies; Scaffolds in the Entertainment Industry; Situational Awareness; Emergency Preparedness; Early Adopter Video; and Emergency Action & Fire Prevention.

Upon completion, students receive their OSHA 30-hour General Industry completion card.

DATES: May 13–17, 2024

TIME: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily

LOCATION: Anaheim, CA

COST: The five-day, in-person course is free of charge for participants. The IATSE TTF cannot cover costs for travel, lodging, meals, or per diems associated with travel or participation in this course.

OSHA OUTREACH TRAINERS:

Anita Hartsock, IATSE TTF Training Specialist, is a member of IATSE Local 22 in Washington DC and was the Director of Education and Training for the Local 22 Training Trust from 2012-2018. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Theatre and Design from American University and has over 25 years of entertainment industry production experience in theatres, cruise ships, television, and rock ‘n roll. She is an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer for both General Industry and Construction, has her Advanced Safety Certificate from the National Safety Council, and holds OSHA's Safety and Health Fundamentals Certificates in General Industry and Construction. She teaches a variety of other classes and is extremely passionate about workplace safety. She divides her time between DC and Denver, and when not working, makes music and swims ridiculously long distances for fun.

Kent Jorgensen, of the IATSE Safety Committee, has been involved with safety, training, and standards writing for 25 years as a representative of IATSE Local 80. Kent is currently the Labor Chair for the Motion Picture/Television Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee and is a member of the Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) Council. He is an ETCP Recognized Trainer and an OSHA Outreach Instructor who regularly teaches OSHA 10-Hour Outreach, Entertainment Rigging, Fall Arrest for Entertainment Workers, and High Angle Rescue classes.
