AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) Exam Preparation Pathway 

The CTS Prep Pathway will help you practice your test-taking skills and identify the specific areas where you need to focus your study time. The pathway includes four prep courses, which you can take at your own pace, and the CTS Sample Questions, which are designed to give you an idea of the types of questions you might find on the CTS Exam.

CTS 1: AV TECHNOLOGY

DATES: September 23-25 & 28-30, 2026

TIME: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Pacific | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mountain | 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Central | 12-4 p.m. Eastern

LOCATION: Zoom

COST: This six-day course is free of charge for participants

AVIXA developed this distance-learning version of their CTS 1: AV Technology course to be presented in six sessions over two weeks. The course establishes the foundational knowledge required for aspiring AV professionals. It is the first course in a two-course series designed to prepare learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to the CTS exam. By registering for this course, you are not signing up for the CTS exam. Course objectives include:

  • Explain the scope and significance of the AV industry and describe the role of standards within it.

  • Explain the fundamental scientific principles that underpin the AV industry, including sound, light, and electricity.

  • Identify the components of audio and video systems for various AV setups.

  • Describe the role of networking in AV systems.

  • Describe the purpose and components of control systems in AV technology.

  • Identify the different roles within the AV industry, the fundamentals of AV project management, and effective communication skills.
