Safe + Sound Week: August 9-15, 2021

During Safe + Sound Week, we ask you to commit to taking at least one safety training course because workplace safety starts with you. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the rate of worker deaths and reported injuries in the United States has decreased by more than 60 percent in the past four decades since the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act was passed. However, every year, more than 5,000 workers are killed on the job (a rate of 14 per day), and more than 3.6 million suffer a serious job-related injury or illness.

You can participate in Safe + Sound Week by taking a TTF Safety First! Online Course, applying for one of our OSHA 10/General Entertainment Safety distance learning courses, or taking an OSHA Online course.

The TTF Safety First! Online Courses now include 20 different courses with examples from the various crafts that make each training relevant to the work you perform in the entertainment industry. With the help of subject matter experts in their respective crafts, we added two new courses this year:

  • RECOMMENDED SANITATION PRACTICES FOR MAKE-UP AND HAIR

This course is intended to help artists and stylists learn how to implement sanitation best practices into their daily process to ensure the health and safety of themselves and the performers they work with. Artists and stylists will learn about common infectious agents often encountered in the workplace and how to properly sanitize, disinfect, and sterilize their tools, products, and specialty items while working in the trailer, background processing, on set, and in the theater.

  • WARDROBE AND COSTUME DEPARTMENT SAFETY

This awareness course provides workers with information regarding craft-specific safety and health hazards that may occur in the workplace. Topics include ergonomics, fall prevention, small space awareness, electrical safety, chemical protection, safe sanitation and laundry practices, and more.

We continue to offer our No Fee OSHA 10/GES classes in a distance learning format through video conferencing, so you can participate from anywhere in the US. The OSHA 10-hour training covers general industry safety and includes sections on Introduction to OSHA; Personal Protective Equipment; Materials Handling, Storage, Use, and Disposal; Mobile Elevating Work Platforms; Walking and Working Surfaces; Hazard Communication; Electrical Safety for the Entertainment Industry; Ergonomics; Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, and Fire Protection; Fall Protection; and Hand and Portable Powered Tool Safety.

Upcoming OSHA 10/GES Classes:

If you aren’t able to take the OSHA class you need to work, we offer reimbursement to individuals for OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 General Industry Safety and Health and Construction Safety and Health online trainings. The OSHA Online Course Reimbursement program reimburses individuals who obtain a 10-hour or 30-hour General Industry or Construction OSHA card from the approved OSHA-Authorized Online Outreach Training Providers listed on OSHA’s website.
