Safe + Sound Week: August 10-16, 2020

Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America's workers safe. Safety and health programs are most effective when they recognize workers' collective experience and knowledge to find solutions to workplace safety and health challenges. This is why the IATSE TTF developed the OSHA 10/General Entertainment Safety training and TTF Safety First! Online Courses with the help of subject matter experts from the entertainment and exhibition industries.

Our No Fee OSHA 10/GES classes are currently being offered in a distance learning format through video conferencing, so you can participate wherever you are. We’ve also transitioned courses taught through the Borrow Our OSHA Trainer program to this same platform. Local unions who’d like our OSHA Outreach Trainer to present a course for their local should apply as soon as possible because demand for OSHA trainings has increased greatly this year, and our trainer is booked for most of 2020.

This is also a good time to consider Developing a Local OSHA Trainer. Having an in-house OSHA Outreach Trainer is more important now than ever. This reimbursement program empowers locals to schedule OSHA classes when you need them with access to the IATSE TTF OSHA 10/General Entertainment Safety © curriculum. We customized PowerPoint presentations, an instructor guide, and student books specifically for the entertainment industry so you don’t have to.

The TTF Safety First! Online Courses use case studies from the various IATSE crafts to promote safe working conditions with information, tools, and resources that can help you recognize potential hazards and minimize risks. We added two new important courses this year:

  • HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND SAFETY IN THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

This was designed to identify, give basic information, and share resources on hazards found in work environments. The main course presents an overview on situation awareness strategies and how they can be used to identify hazards. Once the main course is completed, users can choose from 40 different mini courses on numerous workplace hazards that allow participants to customize the learning experience to their needs.

  • COVID-19: RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES FOR PREVENTING EXPOSURE IN THE WORKPLACE

The purpose of this course is to provide workers with information and recommended practices to minimize the spread of COVID-19 upon returning to the workplace. This course also discusses potential administrative controls to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread in the work environment. The course is intended for all IATSE workers in all crafts.
