Boom Operator

“What Lies Above” is designed to be a two-day course focused on preparing participants for running the set and placing microphones extended from a boom pole. Day one concentrates on the craft itself, focusing on the set etiquette, interactions with other crew, responsibilities of the job, and how to be successful as a boom operator. Day two is hands-on learning boom handling techniques beginning with how to properly set up the microphone and ending with required techniques such as handoffs, stand up/sit downs, and and walk-and-talks.

By the end of this course, participants will know what a sound mixer expects you to know before setting foot on a film set. This course directly trains attendees in what they need to know before stepping into the self-starter position of the boom operator. This course is direct training for the job and what is expected and required to be successful from day one.
