Wig Blocking and Quick Changes
Wig blocking and quick changes are an art unto themselves. It can cause a performance to stop or result in tens of thousands of dollars' worth of damage to handmade wigs. This is also a tedious task to teach due to the numerous details that need to be learned. Students will learn the proper way to “put the wig to bed,” specifically for theatre, but the skills can also be used for film and TV. This is the first step in how you secure the integrity of the wig when washing and styling. Block maintains the fit of the wig to the performer’s head, ensuring years of use. Students will also practice quick changes; quick changes can range from 15 seconds to a minute. When working this quickly, you need to know the proper way to remove, reapply, and secure a wig to the performer.
